Layne Beachley has donated her time to be ambassador for Planet Ark's Aluminium Can Recycling campaign every year since 2003.  We asked her a few questions about why she keeps coming back to help out.

What motivated you to get involved with the Aluminium Can Recycling Campaign?

"I'm passionate about environmental causes and am always willing to help raise awareness and educate people on how easy it is to make a difference.

I used to recycle cans when I was a kid to buy lollies but these days the issues surrounding our recycling habits are much more serious. It's time we accepted responsibility for our choices and reduced our impact on the planet by doing something as simple as recycling aluminium cans."

What do you appreciate most about Australia's unique environment?

"The beaches of course!! We have the most stunning beaches in the world and we tend to take them for granted."

What kind of things do you do to minimise your environmental impact?

"We have a worm farm at home which reduces household waste considerably; I recycle everything I can; I buy recycled products; chose paper over plastic; avoid over-packaged goods; turn all lights out when I leave a room; I don't charge my phone over night; shut down my computer every night and turn off all power points when they aren't in use.

Everyone has the power to affect change."
